Without a good keyword research, doing SEO is nothing but ‘running around like a headless chicken’. Agree? The actual goal of doing SEO on your website isn’t merely to generate some traffic, but to generate business/ visibility to your target audience.

I am going to share some sure success tips on how to strategize your keyword research.

Know what applies:

Don’t just randomly fit keywords on good-to-have basis. Be specific and thus will be the yield. Simple, yeah?

Give it thought to understand what your customers might be typing to look out for the services you offer. Those are the ones you need.

2. Be honest, get to know your competition:

You can’t just rank your website with some utopian thoughts. You need to know that millions of others have already done SEO on their pages and hence they rank!

So how do we know if it’s worth it to push that keyword?

  1. Is it too hard to rank? Let’s be honest, I can’t just say Digital marketing companies and get mine listed first. So being realistic is key.
  2. 2. Check your competitors page authority. See if you are fighting a fair game. You should place a target. Page authority is any value up to 100, 1 being the least.
  3. There are numerous websites to check the page authority, semrush is one. Or even better, you could install the free toolbar from Moz which then will show you these details while you hit search using the relevant keywords.

3. Target a volume: Ok, so now we know it’s not all that easy to be number 1 with just about any keyword. We also want to see what keywords get you there. It’s a little dicey, you don’t want to get the keywords that have no traffic, nor do you want one that’s too generic and too tough to rank. You need the ball park figure for sure. Did you know; you have a whopping 40% of people clicking on your link if you are the topmost on the stack?

4. Track your competitor: This is no rocket science, you need to know your competitor before you even start your work. It’s always great to know what your competitor is trying to rank them at. Keep a tab!

5. Make a plan: Don’t miss this step ever!! SEO is not for days or months, you should stay relevant if you want your business to survive. Make a plan on the keywords that you will target, as Stage1, stage2 etc.

These tips will get you far in your SEO journey.
